A very easy read
on 20 November 2011
The story focuses on twins called Annie and Lauren, who are reaching the big 4-0 and this has got them questioning their respective paths in life. I imagine that a lot of women can identify with both characters: Annie, a housewife in an average job married with two grown up kids to 'Mr Steady Eddie' and Lauren, a woman who has been having an affair with her boss for the past 5 years. Both have hit a crossroads and have to make some serious decisions about their future.
I haven't read Carole Matthews for years but I did enjoy this book. It is an easy read. I did have sympathy with both characters and felt their frustration when they were trying to get themselves out of their rut. I also had sympathy for Annie's husband Gregg, even though he was a boring so and so as deep down, he just seemed frightened of the unknown.
There were some laugh out loud moments such as the Totally Tropical party. However, the plot was wrapped up a bit too conveniently but then this is reflective of Carole Matthews style as a feel-good writer.
I would recommend this if you are looking for an easy read, nothing too strenuous. I am reading 'The Only Way is Up' now and am enjoying it much more so far. Also recommend the Chocolate Lovers books - they were brilliant.
