Can I award 6 stars please? This masterpiece of Andy Williams' hit deserves more than 5 stars. The mellifluous voice of John Owen-Jones and the lush orchestrations make this a definite must for Christmas listening. It really is very beautiful so if you are hesitating don't, download it now, you won't be disappointed.
In case you don't know, Mr Owen-Jones is an award winning West End and Broadway performer probably best known for his performances as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera. He's been touring the UK in Cameron Mackintosh's brand new 25th Anniversary production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera, but has found time to bung out a new single in time for Christmas.
`May Each Day' was a big hit for the late Andy Williams back in 1966, but this version is more stripped back, and wonderfully sung by the melifluous Mr Own-Jones. He's backed it up with a an acapella version of `Eli Jenkins' Prayer' which he originally performed on his `Unmasked' album as a hidden track. A couple of minutes which lets you take in just how good a vocalist is, this is a rare wee treat.
There is only one thing not to like about this masterpiece. It is the fact that when it ends you have to drag yourself out of the warm cocoon into which it takes you. My answer is constant repeat. It is gentle, sensitive & quite simply a beautiful song, beautifully sung by the master. Buy it for all your friends & family. Oh & yourself of course.
