You think you’ve seen it all before?
Well this is NOTHING like you saw before!
The photography in this series is more stunning than ever – and happily, after each episode, there is a featurette (“Eye to Eye”) on the filming.
From underground caves, lions and lizards, male giraffes fighting, yellow helmet picathartes birds building nests, naked mole rats and metallic ants to chimpanzees, gelada baboons, strange shoebil birds, buffalo and a blind baby rhino that will bring tears to your eyes. An outstanding DVD – narrated by the iconic David Attenborough.
Simply a must!

This is a new trend for the BBC: Most of Africa's wild life has been either shot for trophies/"medicines" or eaten, and large parts of the continent are far too dangerous to visit anyway. Since my days there in the fifties the major animals have vanished so fast there are in many cases less than 10% left. How to make a film about Africa in such circumstances? The BBC have as usual done an excellent job of seeking out unusual tit bits and making them into well photographed stories but this is hardly a film about Africa as a whole other than the final section: The Future - which despite some flashes of optimism is pretty bleak.
This UK release is on three all region discs and seems to be identical in content to the two disc US release. I cannot comment on the picture quality differences but this has a very high bit rate and I would guess would have a better picture quality.
Sir David does a great job as usual but he is now quite elderly and getting frail and I doubt we will see him out in the sticks much more. What an amazing man! This is a most enjoyable set but it does not and realistically cannot have the gigantic spread say of Planet Earth or The Blue Planet, the animals are no longer there.

I've seen all the various series from the Attenborough school of nature filming since his old Zoo Quest stuff in B/W and then onto Life on Earth his first major wildlife series, but can't think of any that are better than this one. I do wish it'd gone a bit further than it did but that's an observation, not a criticism. This really is wildlife filming of the very highest calibre and one not likely to be bettered soon. There are shorts produced for each episode and those too are very very watchable indeed.

I watched this initially on the BBC when it came out, and was eagerly looking forward to the Blu-ray as the enhanced visuals would be something be a sight to see. This didn't disappoint! The vivid colours accompanied with the voice of Sir David Attenborough, was perfect.

If you want a solid documentary Blu-Ray to share with the family and learn from, then this is the ticket as it covers a wide range of animals in Africa.

Enjoy it as we all did!

africa is a brilliant dvd, what lets this downis the cheap and tacky packaging, all the discs are on one spindle, difficult to remove, box is larger than the others in my earth collection [why?]. at first i thought it was a copy but i don't think they have got round to blue ray yet, also the first chapter was in dutch, tried everything but could not get it in english, pity, great movie

Stunning six part series narrated by David Attenborough showing parts of Africa and wildlife behaviour I guarantee you've not seen before.

Superb high definition photography with great sound quality, this also contains the fascinating behind the scenes making of segments as well.

Very Highly Recommended.

Absolutely stunning, top quality blu ray top quality filming top quality narration. I have never had a DVD/Blu Ray documentary with the BBC logo on it that's not been exceptional and this is too. In fact they just seem to get better and better. I am really looking forward to seeing what extras there are on this set. Very pleased with this purchase and with a super quick delivery thanks Amazon for getting this to me before Christmas very happy thank you very much

Always love watching nature especially by David Attenborough and this didn't disappoint. Amazing new clips that i have never seen produced before including different behavior from animals that you wouldn't expect to see. Amazing slow motion to see the effect in more detail and great narration adds to the overall experience. How they film it at the end of the film shows how long it takes just to get a couple of minutes of film. Great price. Great product. Amazing!

this one pulls out all the techniques of the last few decades wildlife filming, and combines them into a real viewing feast. the photography in this one is beautiful, well, truth is they all are really, but this one manages to present new behaviours using wonderful filming techniques.

its a great way to give the overall view of africa as a continent, which is a big place, and is cleverly done region by region so we get a better "grand" view

this one is my new favourite, as i always love whichever one is current... if i try to be objective, id say overall this one is the best of the lot, well worth it

Believe it or not this is the first David Attenborough series that I've actually sat down to watch from start to finish and now I fully understand why Attenborough is considered the icon that he is because this series is absolutely spellbinding. It's so beautifully shot and movingly narrated and makes excellent, uplifting and inspiring viewing on any grey, overcast, nondescript day.

Most highly recommended to all nature lovers or even the curious !
