A wonderful disc of motets by Vivaldi, Handel, Porpora and Mozart
8 April 2013
Wow! What a wonderful disc of motets by Vivaldi, Handel, Porpora and Mozart each one concluding with an "Alleluia". While the Vivaldi, the Handel and especially the Mozart are well-known, Porpora's motet is a world premiere recording.
Julia has a sublime purity of tone and exhibits a flawless technique, probably best known for her performance with Juan Diego Florez at the opening of the 2008 Rossini Opera Festival when she was only 18 and her performance at the Classical Brits in 2010 where she performed at the invitation of her mentor Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
This album released at the ripe old age of 23 gives a real opportunity to assess a young singer who even now is one of the finest exponents of both bel canto and Baroque repertoire from today's young sopranos with the potential to be the 'Emma Kirkby' of her generation IMHO.
If you wish to hear some high quality short samples from each track then I suggest you visit linnrecords dot com and look for the recording under the music store. You can buy the FLAC 24bit 96kHz Studio Master recording as a download if your equipment will play it. There is a subtle difference between the CD and the FLAC but I'm not sure if it justifies the price difference. In any case it will give you an opportunity to listen to excerpts of each track as it appears on the album instead of hunting around the net (and YouTube) for them.
If you like this CD you may also want to look at The new album 'Bel Raggio' from Aleksandra Kurzak which is due for release June 2013 but if you visit linnrecords dot com the album is available to download now in several formats including Studio Master FLAC. There are samples of each track to listen to
