Heard this on Womans hour on Radio 4 while driving to a business meeting . Don't ask me why except Jenny Murray can be very entertaining ...and I heard this . Not to everyone's taste I am sure but TRY IT . Do yourself a favour and listen to her ...what a beautiful voice . One song and I had to buy the album and have not been disappointed . Well worth the money . Would love to find out more details of gigs etc .

A gorgeous voice with great range. She sings from the heart of her joys and griefs. Don't be put off by the fact that it is not sung in English ; you will still understand it if you have any soul!

First let's get the English tracks out of the way. A Case of You, whilst a good effort, is no match for Joni Mitchell: it lacks credibility. Would a Portuguese lady "draw a map of Canada"? Thank You suffers from the lyrics, which feel a bit like Portuguese that has been automatically translated. Fortunately Dream of Fire works. So 1 out of 3 for these. These would normally mean less that 5 stars.

However, the remaining tracks are a Triumph, We have Fado with a hint of Blues, Fado with a hint of Jazz, uptempo Fado, late-night languid Fado, traditional Fado. All superbly produced.

It's hard to pick a favourite and the more you listen the harder you get:

Desfado - Upbeat ... you will not be able to keep still listening to this
A Fadista - The most traditional. This reminds me of her excellent 2007 Album Para Alem de Saudade. Check the english translation of the lyrics to get the full effect.
Quando O Sol.. Liad back
Despiu A Saudade .. a hint of Blues

Fado fans, apart from the strict traditionalists, will love this album. If you are new to Fado then this is an excellent place to start.

Having seen her on Jools Holland, and listened to her on Woman's Hour, I was very keen to get the album and have not been disappointed.in fact have grown to love it. Ana is a delightful singer and I look forward to hearing more from her in the future.

I saw Ana on the Jools Holland show that week. What a voice.
I ordered the CD right away.
She has a beautiful voice, I especially like her cover of the Joni Mitchell track.
I shall be collecting more of her albums I feel!!!

Sometimes I get a bit fed up with music. I keep thinking I've heard it all, there's nothing new, nothing to inspire. And then... along comes an album like this one. What a voice - deep, sinewy, twisting and turning - Moura's accent, her phrasing and timing are absolutely fantastic, bringing to mind Billy Holiday, only more sensual - Portuguese is such an expressive language. Here, surely, is an artist performing at the top of her game.
The majority of songs are superb, there is variety within it's mainly sombre tone, and the musicianship of the band members and the production is also first class.
I've been playing it non stop for the last few weeks and even trying to learn some of the words so I can sing along!

This is wonderful Fado for both regular Fado fans and those new to this genre. Ana has perfected her craft and provides great lyrical singing with exquisite backing in the best traditions of Fado.......but with a nod towards more international tastes. A really great album with no weak tracks.

Ana is on top of her game..... buy it

Ana Moura has put an incredible set of great songs in this CD. I like every single one.
Besides fado, of course, Ana has some covers that surprised me specially. "A case of you" is one favourite, where the portuguese guitar suits perfectly the nostalgic mood of this beautiful song. Before this version I liked only the version from the incredible Diana Krall... Well done Ana!

One of the most interesting amongst the new crop of fado singers. Ana Moura is taking fado closer to the pop bracket, but keeps (mostly) within tradition. While Mariza and Carminho may contest for the top spot, Ana Moura is not that far behind!
