I'd say there's no better piece of art to define what the eighties were about - a sort of superficial puzzle of comme des garcons shirts, nakamichi tapedecks & sex with characters styled to the max and all of this watched through glasses configured by Michael Mann. When you grew up in those times you'll love it. You have to be ready to accept that the story is thin, the dialogues raise eyebrows here and there and some scenes leave you wondering what the hell that was supposed to be. But, anyway, this is one of my favorite movies. And Mickey Rourke is just fantastic.

What a brilliant film. Looks good in blu ray and the acting between the 2 main characters is excellent.

This film has not withstood the test of time and quality of the Blu-ray was below par with shoddy image resolution and very poor sound.

This is just to advise on the details of the Blu-Ray release (when will Amazon have greater refinement in their product reviews...?). The sound is 5.1 DTS master audio (English and Russian), 2.0 DTS stereo only for Castilian, German and Italian, 5.1 Dolby for Polish VO. . Subtitles for Spanish, French, Castilian, Danish, Finnish, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Bulgarian, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, English for hearing impaired.
Runtime 112 mins, 16:9 widescreen in 1.85:1 ratio.
The sound is better than the DVD releases and way better than VHS as one would expect but it isn't a test disc by any standard-the sound is still very "atmospheric"-Mickey is very softly spoken and when your system is set up to hear him, the soundtrack and certain effects are way too loud.
The biggest disappointment is the picture-I could not distinguish between this "true 1080p" image and the DVD- it looks identical! Same palette, same grain, same ratio. I love the film but this is an unnecessary Blu-Ray release on the basis of the transfer. The sound benefits but not the picture. It's not an awful image, very 80's, it's just that if you have the DVD already and don't want an improved soundtrack, stick with the DVD.

Great price, on a film that has an excellent 80s soundtrack.
