This is a powerful set of tunes. I am not a fan of Mr. Glass but, if there's anyone who could change my mind, it's Tara Hugo. She manages to locate the heart and soul of his music. It reminds me that, just as one must have actors with heart and soul to make a play by G.B. Shaw come to life, so too with a composer as famously cerebral as Philip Glass. He's fortunate to have her.

Together with some well-chosen lyrics, including several of her own, Ms. Hugo draws us into and fully inhabits each song. An artist is someone who makes you see something in a new way, and I've had my eyes and ears opened by this disc. Emotionally compelling and beautifully sung. Give Glass a chance!

Wow! I had not heard Tara Hugo before but she is not only a fine actress but a great singer. Some of the lyrics are also by her so this is a real collaboration between singer and composer - and it shows. I will buy everything of hers from now on and so should you!

There will never be anything like this. For those who are into Philip Glass, or the poems of Leonard Cohen, or the like, this is a must. The lyrics for some of these songs have been written by Tara Hugo herself, and they are as good as anything else on this cd.

Unlike most of Glass's works, where rhythm, precision and ultimately, the subtle change in tonality and syncopation creates the texture of the music, here, it's the poetry of the words and the story they tell, balanced and nuanced by the music. This is a refreshing change, and is all the more interesting for it. They're as good as some of the operas recent operas he has composed, in terms of the stories they tell, except in much shorter snippets, instead of an epic, for example Galilei Galileo, or The Perfect American. There is a consistent dark, melancholy throughout, yet the mood it creates is one of nostalgia, at least for me!

The music is very well-recorded, with a good balance between the music and the voice. Tara Hugo is outstanding here.

A lovely album. Tara Hugo's voice is very special. She sings Philip Glass in a beautiful way. To this day the best album I ever bought! It's difficult not playing this album 24 hrs a day!
