Just a small town girl, making her way in a lonely world. If you love Rock you will love this film. It is done as Grease [DVD] [1978] with Rock anthems. I loved it!

Small town girl Julianne Hough moves to LA fulfill her dream of fame. Geting the full LA experience of being mugged and penny less moments after arriving, she is helped out by the bar hand at the local institution of Rock called the Burben. After convincing owners and "close" friends Baldwin and Brand to hire her as a waitress, their romance starts, but can it stand up to the demands of their dreams, and possible fame offered to Drew?

On another front the new Mayor is trying to shut down the Burbon as Rock is currupting the younger generation. His wife seems to have a personal vendetta against Stacy Jacks played by Tom Cruise (based on Axl Rose) who does a grest job playing a Megastar (must be hard getting life experience of that for him) Rock Icon. I respect Cruise as an actor, but a couple of time it sounded like his voice on the Rock song covers. Another impressive accolade he can add to his skill set.

I espically do like the fact that this is a love story. On more than one front, and the fact that it shows Rock anthems are not about violence, I find hip hop and R&B songs to have much more disrespectful lyrics and/or foul language then rock songs. However this is about the film which is great. The whole cast work great together, the acting is good, the music speaks for itself. ROCK ON!!

I suppose one shouldn't be surprised that the man who is known to rock climb as Ethan Hunt can also play a Rock God, but the surprise was how absolutely mesmerizing and spot-on Mr. Cruise was in his characterization of Stacee Jaxx. Typically over-the top, inebriated, sexy and then wonderfully poignant, Cruise gave a commanding performance of an 80's rock icon; a lost and comically elusive soul, looking for love. Although Cruise stole the show and dominates the screen- Malin Akerman was equally superb and matched Cruises' visceral magnetism.
Subtly campy Baldwin and Brand ; vengeful old groupy Zeta- Jones;Giamatti's corrupt and apathetic band manager- all brilliantly sketched. The young protagonists were a lesser element, hence the four stars, otherwise a worthy 80's tribute to that great rock n' roll era.

I can't understand why Tom Cruise hasn't got an Oscar yet. The amount of roles he has undertaken and performed to perfection is unbelievable, yet he still doesn't get any recognition for his craft. This film is another perfect outlet for his talents. He played the role wonderfully and I was quite amazed at the depth of his character in what was, at its heart, a musical. Well done Tom. A musical that is ok. You'll want to love it more than you can. The song covers are passable and the sets and production values are extremely high.

But it does have Russell Brand as part of the cast (I'm not a fan)... so Meh!

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, I would prefer if he was not in this movie. However I did not direct this movie so...
I love the film, although I can think of many better main actors instead of Cruise... Because well can anyone Imagine Cruise as a badass ROCK STAR? NO... NO you can't. Russel brand is more ROCK&ROLL then Tom Cruise I like the film, I like the songs. Hated Tom Cruise.

3 generations of our family watched it and loved it. No great story line (although no worse than many others out there), but it didn't really need one. It was very cleverly and humorously styled and shot. Kept us all smiling with some good laughs. Great light hearted fun - not for those who take themselves too seriously.
