A golfer's book; but much more besides.
on 2 November 2015
A golfers book with great stories to go alongside. The big story was, of course, DC's loss of his wife in tragic circumstances and his subsequent guts and determination at the Ryder Cup, before his ultimate victory at the Open. However, this book gives so much more. Without being mawkish, the story of Heather will resonate with everyone who has had their family touched by that awful disease. But whilst recognising the help and support of others, DC maintains a confidentiality with 'big people' who were most helpful. This also remains for the other key story of the Open. It is reassuring to a simple amateur to hear the same doubts and troubles that the pro's go through can be managed. I'm also a Bob Rotella fan, but the section leading up to the Open is fascinating confirmation of much that I've read, but not quite internalised until reading this book. Once it got going, I could not put it down.
