I would recommend this product to every parent who is challenged by his son's wish to play drums. They will plug in the earphones and all you hear is a soft thud when he hits the instruments. It's actually great fun! Of course, it's an investment.. so be sure he really wants to practise to make it worthwhile.
This is just simply awful. I wanted an electronic kit to get back in to learning drums after annoying my neighbours with an acoustic kit and moving in to shared housing - I did some research and was torn between this and the Alesis Nitro.
I chose this one based on the recognisable brand name, despite the Alesis Nitro listing more features. A large part of my decision was based on the host of Apps that are promoted with this kit, none of which are of any use. They are essentially dead Apps, and have not been updated in over 4 years. App features do not work as promoted, and the most relevant App, the Drum Trainer, does not work with the latest iOs - There is no hope that this will ever be updated, as the previous update was over 4 years ago. The Song Beats App does not list this kit in it's settings, and the 'store' is not available to download or purchase additional lessons and songs. The Touch App appears to be the most accurate to description, however I was not prepared to spend an additional £100+ on the wire and adapter to test this, as this does not come with the kit.
To top it off, the kit isn't even easily configurable to work with Rockband - I knew this before purchasing, however as this was not a priority, and based on the Apps promoted with the kit, I chose this thinking the Yamaha training apps would suffice, and enable me to drum along to songs in a fun way, while still learning to play. As these apps do not work, this essentially nullifies one of my main reasons to buy this.
Performance wise, this kit is wholly inadequate. The foot pedals for the bass drum and hi-hat are of poor quality, sensitivity levels of individual parts wildly differ from part to part, I couldn't even hear the bass drum or ride on most pre-set kits inbuilt in the system, and the three toms do not even work on one of the preset kits.
After spending a lot of time trying to get this kit to do what it said on the box, I decided that £350 was far too much to waste on a product that was mediocre at best, and was not willing to accept the innacurate information on the item page, so went ahead and set up to return this kit and replace it with the Alesis Nitro. This was much more painful than it needed to be - Seeing as the item weighs 18kg packaged, and the box is far too large to even attempt to carry to the post office, I have no other choice but to arrange a collection, however Amazons automatic refund for returns sets this at under £5, when it will cost me at least £60 to return. I got in touch with Amazon, and what followed was almost 5 hours of explaining the issue over and over, Amazon accepting the return and trying to replace with the exact same item, then another Customer Service agent telling me I would not be allowed to return this. Eventually I finally got the replacement set up for the Alesis Nitro, and confirmation that Amazon would refund the total cost of the return, however I am left to front the cash and lose a day waiting for the collection of the package.
I should have listened to my gut in the first place and steered clear of this complete pile of junk - You get what you pay for, and in this case you're paying a premium for a brand name printed on useless plastic. Hopefully the Alesis Nitro will live up to its product description, otherwise I will be returning that to Amazon also, and purchasing from a much more honest and realiable source. This is also the last time I ever spend such a large amount of money on Amazon!!
