This a fairly basic clockwork train set. All the pieces are cast from hard plastic. There was some sharp flashing to trim off, but that was cosmetic and did not stop it working. The packaging is easy to remove and replace, and the train set is not hard to set up.
As a toy, there are a couple of flaws. First the spring for the clockwork is hard to turn, so the train does not run for very long once wound. It might be hard for younger children to turn. Second, the carriages derail very easily, particularly when it is going fast. The train actually runs better on low carpet or wood floors without the rails.
For the price, less than £5, these flaws are nothing major and a happy afternoon can be spent with one of these. I can also personally confirm that cats love chasing it.
The track was easy to put together but after not very long (less than 3 times used) some of the bits of plastic connecting the track broke off despite only being used by a careful 3 year old under supervision. I know it wasn't expensive but was disappointed for my grand daughter who did enjoy watching the train go. Also she couldn't wind it up herself although she is quite strong for her age
