I bought this set, as many no doubt, while it was one of the "Offers Of The Week" on Amazon. The set arrived today and on first inspection seems in perfect condition.

I won't go into the history of the show as others have covered that far better than I ever could.

I watched the Seasons One and Two originally on BBC2 in the mid 90's and loved (most) of the episodes. I will admit that my attention started to wane at the beginning of Season Three and so from there I literally lost the plot.

Just under two years ago, Amazon and ahem...Play started offering the season boxsets for some ridiculous prices (around a tenner at one point), so I bought the first six and enjoyed catching up on the adventures of our Two Heroes.

Time catches up on you, like time does and I never got round to buying the last three seasons.

I've watched the price closely on Amazon and seen it rise and fall. In the meantime, I'd sold my DVD boxsets on eBay and Amazon Marketplace and had built up a nice little kitty. When I saw the price drop yet again for the Offer Of The Week, I acted quickly and purchased. Being an Amazon DVD renter I got an extra 5% off too, which was nice.

Thumbs up to Amazon too. I ordered on the 9th with Free Super Saver and received the set today (14th), so delivery was top notch.

Oh yeah, the show! It's fantastic!

Being the progenitor of many sci-fi TV shows that became global trends in recent years, the most legendary television programme of the '90s, THE X-FILES, is finally making its blu-ray appearance, after years in the process of remastering from the original 35mm negatives, presented in 16:9 widescreen format, and including new DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks. All 202 episodes are featured, with more than 23 hours of special content across all 9 Seasons, and including bonus features from the previous DVD releases, such as audio commentaries, deleted scenes and featurettes. For the first time, we have the chance to own a piece of television history in superior quality, in the fasion of the glorious "TWIN PEAKS: The entire mystery" set from last year that was also finally presented in HD and in its entirety. Having created a huge buzz months before its release, here is the complete and official details, for those who wish to know exactly what the box includes, and also what it looks like.

Packaging: The box contains 9 - 1 for each Season- cases, and leaves a space reserved for the upcoming mini-series set (due to be released next year), all housed in a glossy, sturdy slide-off box set. All Seasons are 6-disc sets (except for Season 2 which, being the longest, is spread over 7 discs), presented in double, not regular-sized, clear blue amaray cases. Each Season contains all the episodes and special features from the individual Seasons-sets, which are now also available individually on blu-ray. No guides or booklets are included in the box, the only info available is an episode list and a special features list on the inside of each case. The discs of each season have different artwork on them. (Australian release features an additional 2 blu-ray discs for the feature films "Fight the future" and "I want to believe"; Japanese box, also, includes the 2 films, plus, a poster, a set of cards with commissioned artwork, and an episode guide).

Picture/Audio: The entire show was originally broadcast in standard definition. As the series was launched after the early widescreen TV boom of the early '90s, it was filmed with widescreen in mind. The first 4 Seasons were produced in 4:3 format. The series then went to a 16:9 widescreen format for the remainder of its run, as anamorphic widescreen displays were starting to become common. Thus, it now appears as originally intended, which is rather amazing to watch after 2+ decades (only the pilot was shot somewhat differently, and so the result is some unavoidable cropping in order to get it looking right; but that is a minor gripe that only eagle-eyed viewers will notice). The sharpness is astounding, it is even more impressive than some HD footage shown on German TV a couple of years ago. The audio is equally impressive, crisp and clear. The extra features are presented in HD as well, indicative of the effort made to present a pristine package altogether.

To those interested in buying this, this will be of interest: I bought the UK box set for €140 (about $150). Amazon.com's $270 price is ridiculous, but amazon.uk's £100 plus p&p is one of the best deals at the moment. Both UK and US boxes feature the exact same material, which is exactly what one will get when purchasing all seasons individually (but why not have the complete thing when you can buy it at a good price?). If I could recommend one of the 2 sets, I would go for the UK box, because the packaging is better-looking (thicker outer-box, and all 9 cases are double ones - US box has 8 normal ones + 1 double for Season 2). The notes I have included about the picture and audio quality and the remastering are based on selective viewing. Obviously it will take a while to watch everything on here, but I will make an update if I encounter anything worth sharing. Let us all rejoice, this is super exciting, I am sure most avid fans of the show can share my enthusiasm! The truth is - finally - out there!

I can only base my review on the first season, as that is the only one I have watched (so far). So based on the first season, The X Files is enjoyable tosh, and not a very demanding watch. Like Doctor Who, the quality of each episode varies enormously.
This is a nicely packaged box set. I wouldn't go for the DVD box set; by today's standards, it's unwatchable (I've tried). Go for blu ray.
If you are a prime subscriber, it appears you could watch all these 202 episodes at no extra cost, but it would take a long time. It's hard to tell if that would work out cheaper, in the long run. But I am pleased with this product.

What can I say? This boxset turned up on my doorstep today and upon opening it I was immediately impressed.

The packaging:
The artwork they have used for both the outer box and each season boxset is well thought out. Although there is a noticeable amount of missing alien silhouettes that made the dvd boxset a stand out for me, I can overlook it. You'll see why in the attached pictures.
Only problem I have is no episode guide booklet, you get a list of episodes and features printed on the inside of every boxset but the closest you get.

The episodes themselves:
Stunning! If I could give this item 10 stars I would. Upon watching the pilot episode, the definition is fantastic!! With a clear picture now available in widescreen, and better sound quality, this cult classic has never been so fresh. It's honestly like watching the show if it had been made this year, the people at fox have spent a lot of money and time on the conversion.

Special features:
All of the special features have been remarkably kept from the individual box sets and, get this, also available in high definition! I'm surprised the box set wasn't double the price it is now, they must have spent a fortune doing this.

And of course, finally, they've left room for the event series next year which I am highly anticipating. With just over a month to go, there is no better way to catch up with this iconic series than by watching the it on Blu ray - the way it was deserved to be seen by today's generation. Highly worth the buy.

The truth has never been clearer...

A great collector's set indeed. All the 9 seasons of the original series, with excellent quality, HD is crisp and clear, and sound is great. Some, only a few scenes couldn't be found in HD, and in those moments the video turns to SD. It's quite noticeable, but I don't know what could have been done. Prefer the British version (here on Amazon UK), for the packaging of the individual seasons is pretty much standardized (American comes in many different sizes of boxes, it's a mess). I guess that last part will only matter for those OCD people like me, but... Anyway. Extras have been ported as well, and there's space for one, maybe even two new seasons. Definitely the ultimate version of this. Highly recommend it.

A good tv show. All episodes and the two movies. It does not have the new episodes from 2016, but it has all the rest.
