An essential guide to Scotland and its contrary inhabitants
29 March 2019
Moore packs a vast amount of info into his Scottish primer. Concise chapters consider history, religion, law, politics, the arts, architecture, sport, geography, topography, flora & fauna and more. I particularly enjoyed the brief chapter about the clan system (and related sections on Highland warfare) and the appendix concerning the Declaration of Arbroath; Moore prefers to reveal often unsettling fact rather than regurgitate romanticised factoid. Often humorous, always informative and engaging, this is an essential guide to Scotland and its contrary inhabitants.
