Ok, now before I start my review, I should mention that I normally get an irate person send me an inflamitory comment as they don't like what I write. This is an honest review of how I feel about this album, if it offends you its ok as its your choice as is mine to write how I feel. That's out of the way, now lets get to the meaty bit......

I had no expectations for this groups material, I heard "loving the sound" on the radio and loved the sound enough to buy the album, so for that part of it I was not disappointed. However, I have to agree with some of the negative comments made by other reviewers. The choice of songs on the album is good including the covers, I am a fan of covers so it is nice to hear another groups versions of some of the classics. But the whole album did feel a bit amateur at times. That said I didn't hate the album as I didn't know what i was going to get anyway but I wasn't blown away and certainly would have trouble listening to the whole CD. Sad really as I like surprises when I buy music and unfortunately there weren't any this time. I do believe that these guys would probably be great at a live gig and lets hope they have a long career as they have talent and its a shame that this album dosen't shine for them.

I love The Overtones and was really looking forward to this album for some time. I've now listened to it a few times, having had it in my car for a week, and it is growing on me, but it doesn't give me the same enjoyment as the first album - yet.

I'm one of the few people who isn't actually keen on the new single, Loving The Sound, but other that that, I do realy enjoy most of the other tracks, except one. Now of course, everybody's tastes are different, but I really dont like You've Lost That Loving Feeling. I have always loved the song, after all, it is an absolute classic, but I feel this new version does the song an injustice. For me, it somehow lacks the emotion and the feeling of the original, and that is no disrespect to Lachie's vocals, I just simply, don't like it.

Of the other tracks, I adore the covers of Perfect, Runaround Sue and The Glory of Love, they are sublime and very singalongable! Keep Me Hanging On is good, though for me not in the league of the first three mentioned, but it does get the foot tapping on the clutch. Reet Petite is a wonderful track, but I do wish it was Timmy singing and not Lachie - I can't get used to warbling along to it in an entirely different key to Jackie Wilsons, which of course, it has to be to suit Lachies voice! Love Song is an original track and very remiscent of Gambling Man, which is no bad thing, and is an excellent catchy tune and one of my favourites! I also love the title track, Higher.

Altogether, a really nice album, that for me just lacks the spark of Good Ol' Fashioned Love, but I am still glad I bought it. It is a welcome accompaniment on my drives to work and back, even if I do skip You've Lost That Loving Feeling - I just can't listen to that track, but as I've said, that is a personal thing, and I'm sure there are people who will love it.

A solid four out of five stars. (now though I'm waiting for the version to be released with extra tracks, like last time, so annoying! At which point, I will download the extra tracks rather than buy the album all over again!)

What can I say. I loved Good Old Fashioned Love (debut album) better than Higher. I'm in the USA, but I love The Overtones. I could only get the new CD by ordering from the UK and I was pleased with the transaction.

The best songs on the album, in my opinion, are... Loving the Sound, Runaround Sue, Reet Petite, Unforgettable, The Glory of Love, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, and When You Say My Name. You'll notice I preferred mostly the cover songs to the originals on this album.

I can't say that about the last album, as I loved every song on the last album. I didn't feel some of the originals on this album quite had the same sound or feel as their debut album. They just lacked something.

I'm still a huge fan and can't get enough of these guys!

Every single song on 'Higher' is absolutely outstanding!!!! I am especially loving their incredible covers of 'Reet Petite' 'Unforgettable' 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' 'Perfect' and 'Keep Me Hanging On' - Which even rival the originals!! and their phenomenal self-penned songs 'When You Say My Name' and 'Higher'!! See there I couldn't just pick one favourite!! They are absolutely brilliant vocalists, which include Darren's beautiful falsetto and the gorgeous middle harmonies of Mike and Mark. In particular Lachie's deep bass voice is so exceptionally rare and exquisite!!! And Timmy's voice is so naturally pure and beautitful!!! They are all amazing performers! You must see them live! They have really slick sexy moves and are uber dapper and handsome!!! It is no wonder they were asked to perform at the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert. Everyone should definitely buy this album it is really superb feel good music enjoyed by all ages at all times! It is sure to put a smile on your face :-) I have no doubt HIGHER will go platinum like their first album 'Good Ol' Fashioned Love' did! I hope to see 'Higher' reach a well deserved Diamond status! :-) XXXXX

What can I say about the Overtones? You'll either love them or hate them, like Marmite, but I love the vocal harmonies, the phrasing and it reminds me of West Coast USA just after Elvis was drafted and Buddy died. If you like real songs being sung (no offence Dre or Eminem) then this group and this album will knock you back through time. 5 out of 5 although it deserves so much more.
