Gives a good coat, but a bit yellowish
10 April 2016
This is a pretty standard poly varnish, and behaves pretty typically. However, a few differences: The varnish is much thicker than the usual polys I've used, so you have to be very careful to avoid drips and thick patches. And, the varnish has a distinctly yellowish hue after it dries, which I do not like at all. In the case of varnishing floors, the yellowish hue would probably make the wood color look more rich. But, for my purposes, varnishing painted pieces, I do not like the yellowish hue. The only time it makes the painted surface look richer is when I've painted in all warm hues, but even then, I'd rather the varnish be clear.
I'll also note that the curing time is quite long on this varnish, perhaps because of its thickness. And, honestly, the finished surface isn't as hard / durable as with other varnishes I've used.
It's okay for a quick job, but if you're looking to have a finely finished piece, buy something else.
