This has added to my collection of DVD's of this series which have enabled me to discover dancers of a earlier era. The dancing of Nadia Nerina is simply sublime and she deserves wider recognition. In all her roles in this series (Les Sylphides, Coppelia, Giselle and La Fille mal Gardee) she is a perfectionist in her movements and who is very expressive in her acting skills. She is a pleasure to watch on this DVD as on all the others.
Also, the dancing of a young David Blair and the the Clog Dance of Stanley Holden are excellent. Alexander Grant as Alain is played to perfection. I would recommend this DVD to any lover of ballet.

Yes, this is black and white, but that does not deter from such a lovely ballet - the original caste had been re-assembled for this recording and it shows David Blair at the height of his ability - he really was a brilliant dancer and his spins were incredible. Nadia Nerina danced beautifully and partnered David Blair well, but the accolade has to go to Stanley Holden who was brilliant - his characterisation as 'the dame' was wonderful and amusing and his clog dance hilarious. Likewise, the opening chicken dance was very well and ably performed and set the tone of the whole lighthearted ballet. Lovely music by Herrold and Ashtons choreography unsurpassable - very watchable

a wonderful opportunity to see the dancers on whom this ballet was made in their original roles. an excellent clear recording with good sound and plenty of close ups. Great to see that the original Ashton choreography is the same today. I have all the available dvds of La Fille and saw the Royal live screening this year. Well done to ICA classics. Keep up the good work of restoring historical performances.

A real charmer for afficionadoes of Ashton's ballets. A fifty-year-old recording so not perfect by any means in respect of sound quality but the picture is clear once you adjust your set for 4:3 ratio. And who would have thought Osbert Lancaster designed costumes. At these amazon prices a real treat for the cost of a single cinema ticket.

Lovely and appreciated gift for my mother, a ballet fan, capturing a golden age of classical ballet with a terrific cast

The artistry, the sheer exuberance - just a privilege to watch such a classic, danced by Nerina and Blair who created the roles and set the standard.

IT IS A COMPLETE JOY FROM BEGINNING TO THE END. ALL THE BEST ADJECTIVES TO ALL CONCERNED. SPLENDID BLACK AND WHITE. I AM AN ITALIAN AND WATCHING IT I EVEN FORGOT BERLUSCONI AND THAT AWFUL HORRIBLE THING CALLED FESTIVAL DI SANREMO - CHE SOSPIRO!

It is rather wonderful to see just how the up-to-date dance is passed on to the up and coming principals of today

Even though it was in black and white, and ballet filming for television was in its early stages, it was wonderful to see once more the original Ashton choreography with almost the original cast. Stanley Holden and Alexander Grant in particular have never been equalled in their roles.

This is a precious record of the original cast of the finest comic ballet ever. It is simply a joy to watch.
