Very interesting historical insight into the working conditions and struggle of everyday life for the lower class of London. Good read.

Crikey, the things people had to do to earn a living. This is a good read and gives a good insight into the lives of the working class of Victorian London.

Although this sort of this sort of thing has also been covered on the TV by (Sir) Tony Robinson and Dan Snow, this book allows the reader to identify with the characters involved, and how their life histories lead them into employment that we would not find acceptable in the 21st century.

This is an excellent book on the past endurances of the poverty stricken Londoners who had to eke out a living somehow.

Highly rated social document.

The details, though sickening are told in a factual and down to earth manner

Love this book. It is a bit like a raw version of Tony Robinson's Worst Jobs in history explaining peoples roles in the jobs the undertook from rat catcher to cesspit worker. Do not eat before reading! :)))

Feel educated, really enjoyed this book and actually enjoyed more the conversations that I have had since with friends and family since reading it. They think I am very intelligent having all these facts and information and have actually recommended to book to anyone who listens

if you like to assimilate facts this is a great little book to read. Not onl;y does it list and describe some of the disgusting jobs that had to be done at the time but gives a little insight into the lives of the people involved. Good social history.

Rehash of old published literature. Rather boring.

A good introduction to the full story in the book " London's Poor and Labour Laws ". A terrible time to live in, it's all there in black and white.
Read it and find out how well off you are!
