The season continues to go from strength to strength as the clone war rages on. This season contains some darker episodes and previous and even has an awesome finale the continued struggle of the planet Mandalore.

This series is sometimes even better than the movies in its content and character.

TOP 500 REVIEWERon 16 June 2016
This is Season Four of "Star Wars: Clone Wars" on Blu-ray. It consists of 3 discs and presents 22 episodes that were originally aired in 2011-12. The series tells the story of what happens between the live-action Star Wars films "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of the Sith" - as the Republic battles against the Separatists in an effort to restore peace to the divided galaxy. This is a CGI animated series, intended for both children and adults. The audio and picture quality are superb - and I fully recommend watching this show in HD.

Many of the main characters from the films appear in the show - such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, Padmé Amidala, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and Yoda. Throughout, the adventure focuses on action - on battles between the opposing sides, and specifically on conflicts between the clone troopers and the droid armies. For the most part, the story concerns Anakin Skywalker and his young apprentice Ahsoka Tano engaged in missions to defend both the Jedi Order and the Republic. While several episodes are one-shot missions, most are concerned with developing the grander story-arc presented throughout the season. Much of the fourth season concerns attempts to establish a diplomatic end to the war ... but such efforts fail. And in the midst of the negotiation strategies, an old Sith villain makes his return: Darth Maul! The animation works brilliantly, and the voice-acting is excellent. It's a highly entertaining show - and a lot of fun.

The episodes included are: "Water War"; "Gungan Attack"; "Prisoners"; "Shadow Warrior"; "Mercy Mission"; "Nomad Droids"; "Darkness on Umbara"; "The General"; "Plan of Dissent"; "Carnage of Krell"; "Kidnapped"; "Slaves of the Republic"; "Escape from Kadavo"; "A Friend in Need"; "Deception"; "Friends and Enemies"; "The Box"; "Crisis on Naboo"; "Massacre"; "Bounty"; "Brothers"; and "Revenge".

Excellent series. Slaughter, slavery, touchier, massacre, witches, voodoo, shark attack and this is in a "children's" show. What can I say the animation is great, the stories are well thought out and done. The even managed to do something that I though impossible. Then made the Gunguns cool. I still can't believe it. Anakin starts to use the dark side a lot more especially the force choke. The only complaint I have about this series, is Darth maul is on the front cover but his story arc does not begin till the 4th disc. Then he is in the last 2 episodes. Oh Well I guess that is something for the books and season 5. We also see more of Palatine's scheming as he almost engineers the Revenge of the Sith showdown between Anakin and Dooku a bit earlier. All in all great stuff.

Season 4 continues to expand the Star Wars universe in ever more interesting and diverse ways. The series doesn't start with the bang we have come to expect, but throws you into a murky underwater political battle. As the battle rages and new enemies are introduced you do get the feeling of seen it and done it all before. However after this lacklustre start the series really shifts up a gear and starts presenting stories with real depth and imagination.

A stand out collection of episodes is the battle for Umbara. The scene where the troopers first land on the planet is shrouded in mist and darkness. The whole scene is played out with no background music. All you can hear are the screams and battle cries from the troopers. It sets the atmosphere perfectly and is more impressive than many of the movies set pieces. The story twists and unfolds to reveal more surprises than you at first thought.

Another favourite would be the slavery storyline. Again a more emotive story than we are used to with some great set pieces and a real sense of danger.

As usual the animation is of a stellar standard and your favourite characters are all present and correct with a very special appearance by a villain towards the end of the season which will delight fans. It is a testament to the creators that they continue to build new worlds and cultures. The design of various new technology, creatures and races is astounding.

An impressive, enjoyable action packed adventure.

Great season good story arcs lots of Clones much better than season 5 which in part was a lot less quality all the seasons seem to be aimed in part at adults and kids which is good and bad. The return of Darth Maul adds an interesting twist.

Everything about it is perfect except the story lines. Most are pretty good but there are some that just drag and you loose contact with even your favorite outside characters.
