If you like zappa's instrumental work and composition then you will love this , originally released one part in early 80's and the second part in the late 80's , really shows how much a composer frank was , wonderful music

As mentioned elsewhere, there are flaws to a number of these performances.

Do they really detract to the listening experience? Not particularly. For the most part, you will struggle to pick them out.

There are errors, yes. However, they do not detract from the 'value' of these recordings. This is an excellent release. FZ simply didn't have the finance to cover this 'project'. Orchestras need time and practice to get things right. Considering their constraints, and Frank's disappintment with the finished result, it's not a bad job at all.

And lets be honest; if Frank didn't feel it was up to scratch, it wouldn't have been released.

Many seem to rate Yellow Shark ahead of this as far as FZ's classical releases go. Personally, this is far superior as far as the quality of compositions is concerned.

I for one am VERY GLAD to have this release. It is superb, warts and all.

Read FZ's own "Real Frank Zappa Book" and Miles' "Frank Zappa" for two distinct takes on the LSO albums. FZ hated Britain in general, and he is scathing in his criticism of LSO players'unprofessionalism. Miles says FZ was totally unaware of how orchestras work, so he had unrealistic visions of what they can do.
I think they're good, but if you may get a bit nostalgic for the rock versions of these sacttered round FZ's official and unofficial releases. By far the best CD of FZ's orchestral music is "The Yellow Shark"ánd you can see the entire show of that on Youtuve

Awfull recording full of errors, can see why FZ was reluctant to release it, even for a die hard Zappa fan this is not good!

The Zappa Records reissue has copyright protection so it doesn't play on my Mac and I can't rip it to a memory stick to play it in the car. The Mac just sees it as a blank disc. The usual "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo is absent from the discs or the packaging, however it says "2 CD" on the box. CD is a standard format, it's being labelled as a cd, but it doesn't meet the stated CD standards in that it does NOT play in any standard CD player. Whats more, the (UK) law allows me to make one copy for my private use. Copy protection not only stops me doing that but also stops me playing the discs in my Mac. I can't comment on the music as I can't access it. Gonna find myself an old second hand copy which is not copyrighted. Thanks a lot, Zappa Family Trust.
