Top critical review
Very poorly written
9 November 2008
I would like to be able to comment on the story but unfortunately I was unable to read beyond the first hundred pages or so because of the lamentable spelling and grammar.
The author may well have some strong ideas but I was never pulled fully into the novel. Every few paragraphs there would be an apostrophe denoting a plural, e.g. "his pyjama's were ripped," or the word "too" would be used incorrectly, e.g." they went too the restaurant."
Dialogue and descriptive passages are also very clumsy in places. To compare this to Stephen King is extremely misleading. If you are used to reading literature of a certain standard do not buy this novel. I bought it on the strength of the other reviews and feel cheated.
It is a real shame that his first novel has been let down so badly by a lack of proof reading. If I were Mr. Williams I would be having strong words with my publisher and demanding a professional proof reader and editor. The story is the important thing and, on this occasion, it has been completely lost on a potential new reader.
