Sabine Meyer must, along with Karl Leister, be one of the world's top performers on the Oehler system clarinet. Here she is heard to very good effect in a wonderful and diverse set of clarinet concerti. For me the highlight is the Krommer double concerto which she plays with her brother. Also, the Mozart played on a basset clarinet is well worth listening to. You will not be disappointed in this set.
musicianship and musicality are never at issue here--as you would expect from such a distinguished soloist, two fine conductors and two very efficient, effective orchestras.my gripe is that the recordings are all of them muddy and somewhat tubby with the clarinet so highlighted that at times miss meyer sounds shrill and strident--which she isn't on more recent recordings, not least her mozart disc with abbado. so a good, worthwhile investment so to discover this particular literature but not recordings to live with and love.
