A perfectly pitched challenge for little hands and minds
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 June 2019
As it says on the box, this pack is a nice introduction to puzzles for children of 18+ months, who are developing the fine motor skills needed to put the pieces together. There are 4 small puzzles, increasing in difficulty from 2 pieces, to 3, then 4 and finally 5. The board used is good and thick and the pieces a nice size for small hands to manipulate. The pictures are colourful and attractive and each animal is easily identifiable.
I started off separating each puzzle and giving my grandson one at a time, otherwise he’d be faced with 14 random pieces and the challenge of making 4 animals out of them. He’s a smart kid, but we found that a step too far for a barely-2 year-old! We got extra mileage out of it by numbering the reverse of each puzzle (see photo) so that he could eventually sort the pieces himself, which turned into part of the game. He’s now almost 3 and has mastered all four puzzles without needing to look on the back, so we’ve had a good 12 months fun for a very reasonable price.
There are several sets in this series, and we ended up buying them all. Highly recommend.
