If you have never heard of Nelson Freire or heard him play prepare to be astounded. This disc is a revelation and a lesson in the style and performance of Brazilian piano music.I have other recordings of all the Villa- Lobos pieces on this disc but none like these.Take two examples. Track 11 the "A Lenda do Caboclo" of Villa-Lobos played with such suavity and grace and at the other end of the scale Track 17 the Toccata by Camargo Guarnieri..a fiery tour de force glittering and assured. All 30 Tracks from these 8 mostly 20th Century Composers have much to say and the differing styles are absorbing.Recording is first class.Presentation good with a informative essay and biographical guide to this Brazilian Piano Music. What are you waiting for?

Having just heard Freire in recital, he has to be one of the most underrated pianists alive now - I've no issue with the younger stars getting deserved acclaim, but most of them could benefit from watching this unassuming and undemonstrative musician, with a technique to die for that's always used to serve the music. Most of the pieces on this CD are from his native Brazil, and therefore less familiar to European audiences, but where most pianists would use these as light-hearted encores, Freire somehow makes them seem like masterpieces. Even Villa Lobos went up in my estimation, and I could easily develop a soft spot for Francisco Mignone.... worth every penny!

In tis record, Nelson Freire pays an hommage to the music of our country,in a very spontaneus and happy way, and none is more apt to do so, since this repertory has accompanied him since his childhood. We thank him for the precious gift he offers to his admirers.
