A heady mix of travel tales and pathos makes this story of one man travelling around India on motorbike more than just travel writing. Beautifully observed, accessibly written. Makes you want to jump on a bike and head off on your own adventure!
Important warning: I am an old friend of the author and joined him for part of this journey, so my review is favorably biased!
This is a heart-warming personal story of a man exploring a beautiful part of the world on a new/old motorcycle. Ben's writing style could be described as home-spun, it is not the polished work of a professional writer, but that adds to the charm...the reader travels with him, like a virtual pillion, seeing what Ben sees, engaging with the people he meets on the way, feeling what he feels. I feel very privileged to have been able to join Ben for part of this journey...it was physically tough at times, but also intensely enjoyable and exciting, and the companionship which Ben and I shared for those couple of weeks was a feeling I will cherish the rest of my days! Good work Ben, look forward to reading Part 2!
Original, exhilarating and informative travel writing. You feel you are traveling with Ben, sharing in his many various adventures, learning about little known customs and places. Sometimes lyrical and tranquil, sometimes nail-biting stuff. Don't miss it, even if you never intend to go to India, or climb Everest!
