An essential masterpiece for all fikm buffs

A fascinating and very famous film, following a group of six middle class friends trying to have dinner together, but never quite succeeding as real and surreal events keep interrupting. Since it was made in 1972, our definition of "surreal" may have been blunted by the number of odd films we have seen since then. But certainly the events are bizarre and you are never quite sure if they are simply dreams that some of the participants are having. There is one mysterious repeated scene of the group just walking along a country lane between fields, which is never explained. It has comic and serious elements and this DVD has an illuminating analysis by Spanish cinema expert, Peter Evans.
It ranks with Luis Bunuel's masterpiece, "Belle de Jour" and like that one is a tour de force.
