I can do little but echo the existing (high) recommendation. This self-styled journey linking the Mediterranean and the North Sea indeed sounds like a cross between Norway's Trio Mediaeval and Amina Alaoui's recent "Arco Iris" (to whose title "Hirundo Maris" alludes). Arianna Savall has a beautiful voice worthy of her late mother to whom the album is dedicated and she and Petter Udland Johansen lead a creation spanning the purity of opener "El Mestre" to the richly evocative "El Mariner", complete with sounds of the waves and the intertwining of male and female voice to the otherwordly textures on medieval ballad Bendik og Årolilja. While the album might outstay its welcome for some, it is beatifully conceived, planned, executed and presented and deserves much greater recognition that it has received to date.
