4.5 stars - a good action thriller
on 24 January 2016
Some reviewers have complained that the hero, John Purkiss, is too much of a James
Bond, Bourne or Jack Reacher character in that he survived a car crash, beatings and
managed to escape from "impossible" situations. However, to me, that is what a good
adventure story is all about - after all this IS fiction!
This is the 4th book I have read by this author (who also writes as T. G. Stevens) and I have
liked all of them. However, I have to admit that the plot of this one was so complicated that I had
to keep reading just to find out what on earth was going on!
A group of Estonians plan to disrupt a meeting between the Russian and the Estonian president
and will kill anybody who gets in their way. Throw in a couple of rogue British agents, who appear to
be working independently of each other with the Estonian crooks, plus Purkiss, who wants to avenge
the killing of his fiancee 4 years before, and you have an explosive mix.
There were several twists along the way, which I actually did see coming, but it didn't spoil the story.
The events that appeared to contradict each other throughout were explained by the end of the book.
This rattled along at a good pace and I recommend it, even if you have to suspend belief in places.
