a page turner, but little of substance here
on 6 October 2013
I just felt let down by the shallowness of it in the end, the physics was lame, and there was far to much 'domestic' rambling and emotional/personal stuff, it was like the story needed a bit of romance to help it stand up. Also, the ending was obviously contrived so as to leave some material for a sequal, and that distracts it from being more interesting. I also wasn't convinced by the aliens description, they seemed at odds with their hardware, and were to easily brushed aside.....the first two books set up some interesting ideas, that I thought could have been developed in a more sophisticated way. And that's where the problems lie, a conceited eye on the end game of extracting as much money as possible by holding things back, at the cost of a lame ending. Because, anyone with an imagination knows what's going to happen next: the honeymooners in NZ will discover Jennifer isn't dead after all, and neither is Raul..... And they decide to take their ship for a spin, I won't spoil it for those who are really considering falling any further into this money-trap.....or should I call it the 'bank roll agenda' ?
