Very solid flight sim superceeded by free games
on 28 May 2014
If you want an entry game into modern flight sims this may be the game for you. I say "may" as the tutorials are woeful. This is actually a simulator that was released in 1999 but has been updated a bit to run on new systems.
To get the most out of this game try and find the original manual for Falcon 4.0 (which is the same game).
There are better versions of Falcon 4.0 out there, which are actually free, such as Falcon BMS, and Open falcon. However, Falcon 4 Allied Force is the most stable of all three, and may be your best starting point.
About the game itself:
Graphics: Not great, but workable (it is 14 years old)
Sound: Again, passable.
Gameplay: Superb. It is one of the only flight sims that offers a dynamic campaign, both in Korea, and Bosnia. You will become very familiar with certain takeoff and landing approaches, and the AI is fantastic. The fully modelled Air Traffic Control works superbly, and no other flight sim can touch it.
I really do recommend this flight sim, although you need to be prepared to do a lot of reading to get the most from it.
