Sometimes Simone White's songs and voice are so fragile, so ephemeral,
that the wind might blow right through them. There is real beauty here.
Her last album 'Yakiimo' (2009) was a box of delights and the new release
'Silver Silver' shows no sign of flagging in both quality and imagination.

There are thirteen numbers in the set which includes two brief instrumental
interludes : the moody and mysterious 'We Didn't Know' and the magical 'Frogs'.
Of the songs 'Star' is an especial highlight; a simple but enchanting lullaby
sung over a strummed guitar and accordion accompaniment, followed closely by
the delightful 'Never Be That Tough'; an composition to warm the coldest heart.
Andrew Bird duets splendidly with Ms White on the title track 'Silver Silver';
an extended folksy arrangement decorated with plaintive violin and the staccato
rhythms of 'What The Devil Brings' delivers a little darkness to the proceedings.

For my money, however, 'In The Water Where The City Ends' takes the prize for
top track. The hypnotic martial beats and haunting vocals cast a spell which
carries us along like a fallen leaf in its wake. An intoxicating invention.

All-in-all there is little here not to love.

Highly Recommended.
