Although the picture quality - not to mention the choreography - is often basic, it is a joy to see the young Soloviev in action. He brings the heavy-handed Stone Flower to vivid life with his wonderful dance quality and his personal radiance. Elsewhere, Struchkova, Maximova and Liepa are also wonderful. Ulanova is better seen in other films of the period. This Swan Lake extract does little to enhance her legend. Overall, a DVD for the cognoscenti rather than the general ballet fan. Many of the clips here are available elsewhere, filmed in much better quality.
