5.0 out of 5 starsCost effective means of using your RPi with an "old fashioned" VGA monitor
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 July 2012
I bought this product for use with my Raspberry Pi (B) and got it to work within minutes. I do not have any monitors or TVs with HDMI capability, but this works excellently with my slightly older Relisys 1280 x 1024 60Hz monitor. The unit is extremely compact and lightweight, much smaller than I had expected. In addition, compared to other adapters, the price is excellent too.
I highly recommend it for RPi users that wisth to use more economically priced VGA monitors.
It is not difficult to find information about how to set up your RPi so that it works well with this Neewer converter. In order to use it you must as a mininum set the following in the config.txt file in the boot directory of your RPi:
hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_drive=2
hdmi_group=2
It then depends on your monitor in terms of further settings. I simply used:
hdmi_mode=35
This in order to select the correct resolution and refresh rate, but I had unused dark borders at the edges of the screen. I managed to get rid of those entirely by enabling:
disable_overscan=1
And that was it, much easier than I thought.
The best place I found for information on how to set up your Neewer Black HDMI Input To VGA Adapter Converter is: [...].
