pretty nice piece of kit
8 January 2014
I quite like this.
It has a beautifully tactile feel to it. The slate grey with white/silver contrast stitching looks like quality. And the little pen/stylus holder is a nice addition - although to be honest it is a little tricky trying to get my New Trent Arcadia stylus into it... but then the New Trent has a slightly bulbous 'point' to it so I am not holding that against Targus.
The Clasp mechanism - a hard moulded clip-like extension to the front cover - is very secure... In fact sometimes it is a little difficult to get it open, that is how secure it is...
This cover does not have the ability to stand the iPad up ion a portrait position - there is no swivel feature to it. But it does have two and a bit landscape positions (in addition to the flat on its back).
The half position is that if you tuck the front cover under the back is holds at about a 15degree angle - hold is perhaps slightly misleading, because if you choose to use it in this position, when you tap on the screen it will bounce a little - this is because the spine of the folio case has some give, but is not stretched enough for it to lay flat when underneath.
This is to be honest, slightly frustrating for me because it means that you have to have the whole thing open like a book if you want to lay it flat on whatever surface you are using. I am not sure if the spine will stretch over time and therefore not be an issue. It could I suspect, so it is not a deal breaker for me.
The other two positions are found by popping the bottom (if it is laying in a landscape position, left hand side if it is in a portrait position) of the out of the case - reasonably easy to do, although I don't do it often; one, I don't need to much, and two, I don't know how often you can do this before you weaken the clips that hold the iPad in the case... it seems a quality product, but still. - Once you have popped it out the back cover bends open and you slot the cleared case section into one of two grooves, depending on what viewing angle you want.
I am happy to say that the slots are deep and strong, unlike some other cases that use this method, and so you iPad stays put quite nicely without you worrying that the slightest knock or breeze will send it out of position.
The magnetic cover works well and puts my iPad to sleep every time.
Like I said in the title and in my first line, this is a pretty nice piece of kit and I quite like it. You probably will too.
