Yet another lads night out story
on 2 January 2015
There seems to be a growing number of authors who think a bunch of blokes getting drunk and disorderly and messing up the arrangements for a wedding/funeral/job interview/holiday/drug deal is the ideal premise for a great read. That's not necessarily true, as demonstrated here. The use of English is never quite right, particularly the sporadic attempts to reproduce colloquial dialogue, which only tend to diminish any dramatic tension which may have been present. The characters lack individuality, and could come from any number of similar novels, and the plot is almost irrelevant. This genre clearly appeals to many readers, but there are better (and worse) examples to choose from.
