downloaded whole album. Was looking for something new after losing interest with a lot of the same old, same old boring stuff knocking around. Really enjoying listening to these songs, love the voice, love the guitars. Hard to pick a favourite cos they all have the essence of everything I have ever loved. Alabama Shakes.... Thank you.
I first saw this band on Jools Holland and checked out the album the following day. Wasn't overly impressed by some of the songs on the album so I just downloaded the ones I liked. Told a few friends about Alabama Shakes and the ones who have heard of them agree with me that they are an excellent band
The Alabama Shakes erupted into the musical world with "Hold on" a perfect slice rock n soul that is so fine that it ought to be stamped with a quality kite mark. It is an instant classic, a song that someone should have been written before and a performance by a band so tight you couldn't prize them apart with dynamite. It is a standard in the making with its brilliant dirty sluggish riff and is driven by the best new female voice in rock music to found in the larynx of Atlanta's awesome Brittany Howard. Her sassily delivered opening line "Bless my heart, and bless my soul, didn't think I would make it, to twenty two years old" kicks the song off with a bang and it just gets better. It is as if the Drive by Truckers have invited Otis Redding on stage for a jam and recorded it. Thank god they turned down the offer to appear on the American X Factor as a new set of contestants. Their debut album "Boy and Girls" is well worth checking out, but you suspect in the case of the Alabama Shakes there is much more in the tank. If alternatively you are given a Hobson's choice of a ticket to one of their brilliant gigs or having your cat mangled then unfortunately Tigger's days are numbered
