Brilliant and scary found footage film. At the beginning it is like a spoof of the popular show "Ghost Adventures" and Sean Rogerson does a great impression of Zak Bagins. It seems cheesy at first but as the group of ghost hunters enter the former mental asylum things get very eerie. It's more things than make you jump rather that scare you. Being a found footage film the camera does shake a lot. The acting is good and the ending is sickening. i would recommend to any horror fan that doesn't take things too seriously. it is not for the faint hearted.

Although the trailer online has over 20 million views, if you want more of a fright I wouldn't check it out until you have seen the film as it reveals a lot of the scary bits and you know what's coming. The DVD special feature is the making of.

I gave this offering four stars because I liked it and it kept me reasonably entertained. There's no originality here; in fact for whole segments it was so similar to The Blair Witch Project in its depiction that it just seemed that that whole film had been lifted and transplanted into the cadaver of a psychiatric hospital setting with some cosmetic casting changes and back story.
It ups the ante on BWP though and does a good job of achieving a balance between unseen horrors of the ilk of 'bumps in the night' and moving furniture to the brief presence of an 'entity'
As a film in itself its quite nicely done and probably could have done without the whole tiresome found footage element and faux introduction at the start. I liked the idea of it being one of these obscure channel ghost hunting programmes and the lead guy was good in his willingness to fabricate initial interviews and footage in order to fool the gullible audience of his particular programme. It's creepy rather than scary, performances were of a good standard and after its initial scene setting it does fill the remaining half with quite a lot of watchable scenes.

Grave Encounters is a 2011 Canadian supernatural horror film, shot found footage style. The footage follows the crew of a paranormal reality television program who lock themselves in a haunted psychiatric hospital in search of evidence of paranormal activity as they shoot what ends up becoming their final episode.

I love a good found footage horror film and I have to say this film is by far the best one out there! The film starts out rather slow as they set the scene for their tv episode and interview the locals just as the tv shows such as Ghost Adventures do and then they finally enter the building and the scares begin! Prepare to jump a lot!!!! It's very scary. The storyline is also really engaging and keeps you hooked until the end.

If found footage horror interests you, or you're just looking for a good scary film this one is for you! There is a second movie but it's nothing compared to this movie.

This is another 'found footage' film following a group of ghost hunters who lock themselves in a deserted psychiatric hospital in the hope of finding some sort of supernatural contact. This one however is much better than you might expect - certainly one of the better found footage films of recent years. It begins with a clear introduction of the characters and builds tension through gradual reveals, but not always revealed to the characters. So the audience can see what happens while the characters are unaware. There is a clever plot trick which allows the ghosts to do much more than just haunt the institution, which really puts them in control (you'll need to watch for yourself). This makes the plight of the characters much more believable. Certainly worth a look.

Watched this for the third time on here, can't praise this film enough. Still gives my the heebie jeebies. Not just one of my fave horrors, but is up there with my favourite films. If all found footage movies were half as good as this, the genre wouldn't have such a bad rep. All fans of horror need to watch this. If it doesn't scare you, then you're either being contrary or you've received a lobotomy.

I really enjoyed this. As someone who loathes the Ghost Hunter TV because it's always fake and always dull. This is what I hope would happen!

The ending is a bit rushed as others have said but overall this was great entertainment, not too serious and it has it's fair share of creepy moments. It's not really a terrifying film more along the lines of suspense and make you jump. Some of the effects on the ghosts are very well done, apart from the rubber gloves, won't say more. Spoilers!

This is my favourite - 'Caught on camcorder film' - I've watched, truly dark and ironically, believable.
Well made and acted, seen it three times now and it still makes me very uneasy - watch late at night in candle light, you will feel very uncomfortable.

I must say, i enjoyed this found footage horror movie. It kept my attention throughout and there were a few genuine scares to be had. Well acted for the genre, and the beginning set the movie up really well. Obviously ripping off one of the TV haunted series that plays on the Really channel, but i think it does a great job - good characters played well, forboding atmosphere, and really creepy location. Definitely worth your time as far as haunted found footage movies go. I will be watching this again, for sure!

Well, they're no Ghost Busters, but the film is Good.. it has a lot of jump scares and some surprising deaths, It just shows what these 'reality ghost hunters' actually think while they are filming.. but i doubt that this ever happened to them.. also the acting is very good, I would watch this film again, as the actors aren't cheesy neither is the plot.
