Could be better!
on 19 February 2013
While this is by no means a terrible camera and if it is to be used predominantly outdoors, it should be OK, if you are prepared to spend a bit more money, you can get better value by going for the FS series with the FS16 only £13 more expensive than this offering.
Firstly the good, it is very light (as it has a plastic rather than metal case) and is one of the simplest camera's I have every used, even other point and shoot compacts. If you can get enough light onto the 16mb chip, then it gives good quality pictures and if you just want a simple point and shoot, outdoor camera which you look after well then you will be very happy with it.
However....the build quality is not great being made out of plastic rather than aluminium which my other (admittedly more expensive) Panasonic cameras have been made from. We then took a few pictures indoors which are a bit disappointing as they are quite grainy and the colour is not great even compared to our 10MB FS7 of 4 years ago. I think this could be down to the noise of the 16mb chip although this camera does have a very small flash unit so it could be combination of the two. Finally the last negative is the battery life. It does have the smallest battery of all my Lumix cameras but after my daughter had been playing with it for three hours and taking a small amount of video, the battery is down to one bar despite it being a brand new battery fully charged the night before. This is probably down to it having a huge, bright and beautiful screen but again this is a bit of a concern.
This camera is still very new to us and it certainly is not a terrible camera having already taken some good, well lit photo's but I am left with the feeling I wish I had spent a few more pounds and got the FS16!
