An excellent, heart-warming, emotional roller-coaster
on 11 March 2012
I had 'Prisoner of War: Judy' on pre-order having, last year, seen this author listed amongst the Sunday Times best-sellers and having read two of her books as a result. This latest book was downloaded to my Kindle yesterday and I read it in one sitting (with my labrador sprawled across my knees!).
Ms. George works for the PDSA, is an expert in the history of animals in wartime, and has has a writing style that takes you right in amongst the action, hardship and tragedy experienced by these unsung but courageous creatures and the soldiers, sailors and airmen whose lives have been irrevocably touched (and often saved) by them. If you came across the remarkable story of Judy in a novel, you might describe the plot as far-fetched and unbelievable yet, incredibly, this is actually a true story, verified by the people who were there at the time and backed up by official documents.
The standard of spelling, grammar and formatting is top-notch which, in my experience, is unusual for a Kindle book.
If you're a dog-lover, and if you'd like to take a fascinating, heart-warming (and sometime heart-wrenching), break from your usual genre of reading material, I recommend that you get this book.
