This is one of the best Goldberg variations recordings I came across for a long time. The key thing with David Jalbert's interpretation is that he creates a very natural flow, just as if he would tell a story. His phrasing is like talking, in all aspects of the voicings, creating this very special and enlightning transparency. And: While David uses quite a bit of rubato, the interpretation never slips into pathetic romanticisms, which surely is a very difficult achievement, wonderful to listen to. A remarkably mature performance for such a young man!
