As you may know, Laurindo Almeida was a virtuoso guitarist, who excelled in several music genres, for example classical, jazz, Latin-American (particularly bossa nova & tango) and Latin/jazz fusion. He was also a composer. On this CD he plays chiefly great old evergreen tunes along with a few classical pieces and five of his own compositions. As ever, he plays with impeccable technique & sensitive interpretation, and for me the rating is five-star all the way. My only adverse criticism is lightweight and concerns a misprint: the impressionistic tune "Laura" isn't by "Raskin" but by the American composer, David Raksin. If your taste in music is catholic and you rather like Latin-American rhythms and good tunes played sensitively on classical guitar -- then this CD is for you!

A guitar maestro without doubt, especially with Spanish/Brazilian music, but a bit uncomfortable with stuff from films & stage shows.

This a gentle series of solo guitar playng by a master. The standard melodies are charming, and some of his own compositions are included.

Long history since moving to the US in the 50s. Worth adding to my collection. Not up to his best eg "Collaboration" with the MJQ in the 60s.
