Heard "When the Past was Present" on the Rough Trade Counter Culture 12 compilation. It's a real throwback tune to when house music was cool and underground. Very early 90's feel. I bought this album on the strength of that track and have not been dissappointed. The music is very varied and always in a good way. No duffers on here. Just sublime cool dance tunes.

Went for the special edition for the inclusion of all the extra tracks, which are very good indeed.

This is just class from track 1 to 11, excellent vocals from one of his mates, and a must have for anyone who likes music

In his debut LP, Barcelona based producer John Talabot mixes the breezy grooves of balearic beat with the druggy textures of glo-fi and creates a deep, engaging house record that seeps into you the more you listen. The songs are by degrees wistful, melancholic and spacey, easy to blend into the background on a warm day, but with the detailed production and layered sounds that mean it's equally as effective as close listening.

With the country currently covered in a blanket of snow it's easy to get enveloped in this record, escaping into the sounds and textures of a warm balearic night. It'll be doubly as effective for a summer soundscape when/if the good weather hits. It's lush but with an edge, not carefree and upbeat enough for the daytime, the perfect music instead for late night beach parties or for walking through the city in the early hours with only your headphones for company.

Electronic artists aren't always known for their consistent artist albums, but Talabot bucks the trend here. The only word of caution is that it might be a bit samey and featureless for non-electronic-dance fans, even though the song lengths are comparatively short by the standards of the genre. For house fans though, I can't recommend this album enough, it's fantastic; hazy, sexy and engrossing.

I didn't know what to expect with this album, but from the very first track i knew i was in for a treat!

A joy to listen to, and leading contender along with army of mushrooms for my album of the year so far.

Like a number of great producers coming out of Spain (Henry Saiz etc.), John Talabot is a master of his craft. Sophisticated, intelligently produced dance music. Highly recommended and sure to become one of the best records of the year.

Now I'm rubbish at reviewing albums but thought I should say this is a GREAT album. If you are into this kind of music (which you must be or else I'm not sure you would be reading this) then this is a MUST have.

It feels like summer when it's on :-)
