A charming picture accompanies each word word portrayed, and russian language examples of its usage follow. With a link to an audio track of the language examples. And this is a worthwhile selection of basic words.
But the book has its quirks:
900 pages is a lot of Kindle page-turns for such a small number of words.
Inexplicably, the table of contents in the margin seems unable to display the first section 1.1 Animals - Животные even though you can still use "Location" to page-flip to its starting point on page 27 and read about "Bird - Птица" and the rest.
And the six subject sections (Animals, Body - Head, Body (more generally), Colors (sic) Basic, Food, Number) are numbered 1.1 to 1.6, giving the impression that, maybe, the authors had been cut short in going for wider scope in subject sections numbered 2.1, 2.2, 3.1 etc.
Five stars, but with a wry smile!

This book and other offered by 101 should come witha downlaodable sound track that is easily downloadable. I have bought a full series of their books and none make it easy to get the spoken pronunciation of Russian words or phrases. They re commend download to their site for the files, but their is no easy simple link I can click when I download their books to have the sound file download to a folder of my choice and for there to be a self activating .exe file that automatically sync's with the book file on my device (Kindle Fire HD). I think Amazon should be more proactive in ensuring that audio books are easy to install with their sound especially on their excellent Kindle. I have written an emai to the 101 people but have not been given any help. A good book if I could use the audio.

Free... but still rubbish. Apparently I have to write at least twenty words, but it's still rubbish... eighteen, nineteen, twenty.

I know it is free, but this could have been a lot more useful if they had put a bit more in the audio files. As it is the book is based a series of nouns (bird, dog etc) followed by descriptive phrases such as big dog, old dog etc. However the audio file only covers the nouns, there is no guide to pronunciation of the other words.

Wasn't expensive but still managed to be a waste of money. Single words such as 'brown' featured in a few sentences; how this would help someone learn vocabulary is a mystery

Very short and didn't learn anything from this book. Really a waste of money, because there are almost no words in it.
