Superb read!
Intelligent, articulate in stark contrast to most of the drivel seen/ heard on commercial TV/Twitter these days.
I'm not a pianist myself but a huge Beethoven fan and the insights provided by the author were a revelation.

This is a beautiful essay. It's always good to encounter a musician who's as articulate as he is musically talented, and Biss's little book is enormously stimulating and thought-provoking. It gives you privileged access to his mind, but it also does what any good book on music should do: it sends you back to the music itself. Brilliant!

This gives an insight into the mind of a concert pianist, and his thoughts on Beethoven. My slight qualification is that it went on a bit long and could have done with a bit more structure to it. For this reason I cannot give it total support.

This book has the merit of being cheap, and short. The author has also given a series of lectures about Beethoven's piano sonatas for the Curtis Institute which are worth watching, but the book doesn't give so much insight into Beethoven.

Story of a pianists obsession with Beethoven, How his love developed why Beethoven is perceived as a genius,

It's very personal, articulate and utterly fascinating,

An interesting read about one of the all-time great works of Beethoven's oeuvre.
For anyone who hasn't got into these piano pieces, start here!
