The Chieftans collaborations can be excellent or a bit uneven. The good ones- like Celtic Wedding and Santiago- are well balanced and enthusiastic whilst the ones I feel that don't come off feel rather patched together or are completely dominated by the Irish sound and the force of the Chieftans playing. Fortunately this is one of the better ones. The guests on this are all accomplished enough and confident enough to retain their individuality and Paddy Moloney has had the sense not overdo arrangements. This is with the exception of the Vince Gill interpretation of "Dark As A Dungeon" which is a bit overdone for my tastes, but I am not a huge fan of Vince Gill so am not predisposed to like his contribution.
I bought this recording as I have always been interested in how songs and tunes taken to new places by emigrants were preserved there when they had faded from memory in their country of origin. Having recently begun acquiring the Chieftans collaborative efforts I enjoyed this and feel it was worth buying.

If you like a mix of the country and the Celtic then this is for you. What more can you say about the superb performances from the Chieftains that hasn't already been said before? Another masterclass from these timeless musicians.

This is a great mix of music style from both sides of the pond with good old boys in the Irish and Nashville tradition. Great fun and frolicking music with a touch of the Celtic black as well.
