TOP 500 REVIEWERon 29 April 2012
In French with English subtitles and some English dialogue, this film was made with the co-operation of the French Special Forces and is a straight shoot without any CGI. It is very entertaining and the story is fairly believable. The action flows from scene to scene and is realistic. If you enjoy good old fashioned shoot em up action films you are going to love this. The actors underwent training with the French Commandos and French Commandos were used as extras in the opening part of the film.

There are some good extras including a very detailed documentary about the making of the film, this includes preparation, training, scene location and the actual shoot.

A great film for a Sunday afternoon or with your mates and a few beers.

...they do it with style.

This is not your typical American pseudo-propaganda telling a tale of soldiers who think they're the best in the world. Mais non!

Instead we have beautiful sweeping landscapes setting the scene for the brutality of war, made all the more poignant by characters who for all their machismo, we can relate to as mere human being caught up in human struggle.

I don't mean to suggest that this is an art-house tour de force, but there is most assuredly an artistic eye behind the camera, who takes the rough tough soldiers against the world story and tells it with a light touch, and what I can only call; panache.

There are some heavy-handed moments of moralising, but that might be due more to the philosophical mindset of the French, rather than an Oliver Stone sensibilty which attempts to club you round the head with a message.

Oh, and there's a couple of explosions and loads of firefights if you like that kinda thing.

Really surprised how amazing this film was- great acting and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. Also
there are some really poignant moments that you don't always find in action movies. I would say a "must watch movie." as it gets you
thinking about the bravery of journalism aswell

Well written sensational acting fantastic story, French with some English language and English sub titles but that doesn't take anything away from it, the cast is amazing most you will recognize from Hollywood blockbusters , it's slick and stylish with great action, the only draw back is it's similar to blood under the Sun but set in Pakistan and Afghanistan other than that its really worth watching

After Diane Kruger's journalist is kidnapped in the Tribal Areas of Pakistan a crack team of French commandos is dispatched to the rescue.

It's hard to describe this film any more fully without giving away any key plot points, but I think that fans of 1950's and 1960's Hollywood war films will enjoy this. There's a good dose of the Magnificent Seven thrown in there too.

Plus points are the scenery and photography, which are both absolutely stunning, and the performances which are as good, or better, than could be expected given the nature of the material. The final third of the film is particularly strong. Downsides are the one-dimensional villain, some unrealistic and bloodless action sequences and some clunky moralising.

Largely in well-subtitled French with some English dialogue.

A great story, magnificent locations and excellent action, this is one of the best war films of 2011, just because it is in French with English subtitles don't be put off. This is certainly on par with Acts Of Valour but actors play the parts and not real navy seals as in Acts Of Valour. The film was shot on location and adds to the authenticity of an excellent stand out film, don't miss out ,based on true events and up to date this is a must see film.

This has to be the most realistic film in terms of combat/action that has been produced by The French. It shows how far an SF team can go, and more again. The bonding that is portrayed is quite realistic, self sacrifice for the good of the team is a real concept, understood mainly by those who have experience of this type of operation. It is not implausible that this could happen, once you get through the haze of publicity, it's a BRAVO TWO ZERO Concept. Good actors, accurate weapons portrayal, and realistic combat scenes. Short sharp periods of intense action, and long periods of foot slogging and preparation. A thoroughly good and well made film.

I enjoyed this film despite some mixed reviews. If you like 'Tears Of The Sun' or the 'Bravo Two Zero' story then you will enjoy this. The film looks and sounds amazing on Bluray. A great bit of entertainment that holds up to repeat viewings. Enjoy it for what it is - pure escapist entertainment.

Great movie, great scenery, beautifully captured by an amazing film crew. A well made film. Artistic and stylish, yet sensitive to the theme of war and aspects of human strife that exist in parts of today's world. It is also quite moving in places and one feels for the characters and their plight in the story. The Blu-ray has some excellent bonus features too. An enjoyable movie. Definitely worth watching.

This is a great film, & one of the best i've seen focusing on special op missions.
The actors play their roles with confidence & the subtitles do not detract from the action or plot.
It's beautifully shot & you genuinely feel for the characters involved.
The story involves a troop of French Special Forces being sent into mountainous enemy territory to rescue
a journalist & her fixer who have been taken hostage by extremists, & their efforts to escape after the rescue, whilst being pursued by an enemy force of superior numbers.
I've watched it several times now & wish the Brits could come up with something half as good
to show of the qualities of the SAS & SBS / After Black Hawk Down, this goes down as
my second fave war movie of all time. A Class Act.
