This will be my first and last GTA game. The first thing that smacks you in the face is what an amazing sandbox the game takes place in, the city is one of those rare jaw dropping moments in gaming. The problems start once you get past the shock and awe, for a start the vehicle control is crap, the combat is crap and there are enough bugs in there to keep the programmers busy for a long time to come. Games should be fun, I don't get any enjoyment from spending a lot of time in a zero skill driving game then jumping into an almost zero skill shooter. There's not much to learn or much of a challenge here. Take away the amazing presentation and the game play itself is very very basic. Even the major plus side which is the huge number of missions and things to do has its limitations in that so much of it feels so pointless, you can easily complete the main game without having to improve your characters stats by playing sports and the like. In summary it's a massive game, with amazing presentation it's just full of unpolished gameplay and not actually that fun to play.
There's so much to do, so much to see and such a fantastic story that it's, without a doubt, the greatest game to ever grace this generation of consoles. Sure, there were a lot of bugs and glitches which made the online unplayable but it was fixed because Rockstar don't do things by halves.
If you're not satisfied with the story, there's the online. Which is like an extra story in itself. Games like GTA Online could be sold on their own, nevermind as an extra to a fantastically made story mode.
I don't want to spoil things by saying too much. Just buy it and be happy with your life, knowing you could be a part of this fantastic game.
I bought GTA 5 on release day and played it like crazy until I completed the campaign. I then moved onto GTA online when it was released and although it was very buggy in the begining, the potential and fun with your friends was clear to see. I no longer play GTA and that's for one reason. I've upgraded to Xbox One and got rid of my 360. If this was available on xbox one, I'd still be playing it regularly.
The game itself is extremely well put together, you grow fond of the character and there's some really funny moments. Not a great change on other GTA games really, just more vehicles. new characters and a bigger city. Gotta love GTA.
