I`m never without a tub of this acrylic gesso, for me it's a studio essential.
Windsor and Newton's white gesso formula has been a tried and tested ground for virtually all my paintings for at least the last eight years; it gives effective coverage, is quick drying and versatile; I`ve used it to prime hardboard and MDF panels to provide a good seal and surface for acrylics. It can be sanded down for a smooth surface or applied with a housepainter's brush to provide a rougher, textured surface, but that's only advisable on a rigid support. It's also - of course - equally effective on canvas, ready-prepared or DIY; two thin coats maximum generally works well.
It's suitable for oils, water-based oils and alkyds; one of my colleagues has even used it to prime heavy paper for use with oils, providing a satisfactory seal between the medium and the paper surface.
A very dependable product, highly recommended.

I've tried other thickening media for acrylic paint before but this one is by far the best. It gives a fantastic thickness - making acrylic feel like good quality oil paint - and it does NOT dilute the colour strength at all - as all other products I had tried had done. It therefore has the added advantage of making the colour go much further, so that if you have mixed a specific shade which might be hard to mix exactly the same way again, you can add this gel and instantly make more - or if you find you are running out of a shade you've mixed, add some gel and eke it out. If it becomes too thick, add water to render it back to a more normal acrylic substance! It has this versatility, which I think makes it a product that is great value for money - especially as the pot is a generous size - I'm not sure I shall need to buy another for some years!!

Fantastic! So many cheap brands of gesso look opaque white - but actually dry to a clear slightly misty colour. I like using Gesso to brighten colours (similar to Jerry Yarnell's technique). I find this gesso very suited to this style of painting and covers quite well.

This is gorgeous. I've mixed it with paints which leaves a beautiful sheen on the project. I've tried it on its own, painting it over paint and is a lovely finish

Very good quality Gesso.
I normally use it for priming mdf board by giving it 3 coats on the front and one on the back.
It works very well for acrylics and oils.

Used in the making of a foam LARP sword. Worked great to seal the foam ready for painting, and also to stiffen it up a bit for easier shaping. Not to mention a great price for the quality here. Has a fairly opaque white colour.

I'm using this to help make thinners for my airbrush whilst fine scale modelling, it seems to work and does exactly what it promises to dodo.

It's a matter of trial and error figuring out which materials this will work with.
For your reference, this makes Sharpies bleed, even when baked.
