So badly written, I couldn't get even to the 10% mark
16 April 2012
I gave up on this book less than 10% of the way in. The author starts by introducing several characters who, presumably, will begin interacting with one another at some point down the line. However, I couldn't be bothered to wait for this to happen.
There is a dearth of commas (as if the the author was trying to be economical with them) which makes many passages just too confusing to read. Even with commas, the grammar is sometimes poor and the narrative often doesn't make sense, as per this example :
"Normally timid as a little mouse and hardly the most communicative member of the workplace but when Jenny told her the news about Chris, or 'Chris the bastard' as he would be known from now on, Judith had been wonderful."
I decided life was too short and moved on to better fare.
