I own a couple of Kristin Hersh solo albums but nothing by Throwing Muses' so where better place to start than 'Anthology'. An overview of their career, chosen by the band, rather than a collection of singles, it does show the strength and depth of material Throwing Muses have. I love the kind of tribal drum beats, as opposed to the four to the floor stuff of most other Indie bands, not that they aren't capable of whipping up a storm themselves, though. Whilst Kristin's electric guitar is quite hypnotic, weaving in and around the drums & bass. The one thing that I've never appreciated is the influence that Throwing Muses have had on lots of bands. Listening to 'Anthology' you can hear the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Karen O especially. Most definitely Throwing Muses are truly an original, imaginative, inventive and under appreciated band.
