A well structured and written text. If you are a photographer and a beginner with PAINTER 12 and want to know how to use the software, this is the book with which to start. The book has lots and lots of examples of each of the tools and their effects; but more importantly the tutorials start easy and become progressively more difficult so you feel as though you are improving in technique because that's what you are because the author has lead you carefully through the stages. There is a link to a dedicated website from which video tutorials, examples and further written materials are available.

This is just the book I was looking for. As a photographer I wanted to produce some painterly versions of some of my work. I am new to Painter 12 (although I have a good knowledge of Photoshop) so the learning curve is a bit steep. This book is very clearly written. All of the files used in the book are available from an excellent website which also include video footage. This is a first class book that I would highly recommend.

Don't be put off by the title. Even though its about using Painter 12 for photos, it covers a lot about Painters tools
and how they are used to enhance photos and getting them to look like they were painted by oils etc. and not just printing them
out. It covers things like what brushes would be better for a certain painterly look and also advice on how to set your ink jet printer
up for best results. Lots more things are covered.
Thoroughly recommend this for people like me who use painter for producing artwork and making your photos look like
you painted them in different mediums.

A clear and consise book showing in easy steps exactly how to produce good painterly images from photographs. Plenty of images to work on (download) and a good special effects section. Full of useful information from cover to cover.

I'm relatively new to Painter and a bit more advanced inPhotoshop. There is a steepish learning curve involved, and this book "holds your hand" through the basics and onto the path, so to speak, in a logical and easy to follow way.

It is more like an operating manual with technique training than "how to paint" in my opinion, but then, we all develop styles as we progress anyway and teaching to paint is not as much use as teaching how to paint (if that makes sense).

If you are looking for a book to get you going in Painter, this won't disappoint in my opinion.

A little sort on info on some areas, though I suppose what I am looking for is more Illustration related.
