A well structured and written text. If you are a photographer and a beginner with PAINTER 12 and want to know how to use the software, this is the book with which to start. The book has lots and lots of examples of each of the tools and their effects; but more importantly the tutorials start easy and become progressively more difficult so you feel as though you are improving in technique because that's what you are because the author has lead you carefully through the stages. There is a link to a dedicated website from which video tutorials, examples and further written materials are available.

I'm relatively new to Painter and a bit more advanced inPhotoshop. There is a steepish learning curve involved, and this book "holds your hand" through the basics and onto the path, so to speak, in a logical and easy to follow way.
It is more like an operating manual with technique training than "how to paint" in my opinion, but then, we all develop styles as we progress anyway and teaching to paint is not as much use as teaching how to paint (if that makes sense).
If you are looking for a book to get you going in Painter, this won't disappoint in my opinion.
